A survey of songwriting techniques and approaches as demonstrated in the works of Lennon & McCartney, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and others. Song form, harmonic and melodic progression and transformation will be examined, along with lyric writing techniques. Students will participate via their own songwriting or by a detailed examination of their favorite songs.
