Entrepreneurship in the Music Industry
Biography
An educator for 30 years, Kevin McCluskey is an Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music, where he teaches courses on music business entrepreneurship and career development.He has taught workshops at various national conferences, been invited to teach at the Royal College of Music in London, England, and currently is Faculty Supervisor of Berklee’s Jazz Revelation Records.
Professor McCluskey has toured the Soviet Union and leads a Berklee jazz band that tours Costa Rica and other South American countries every year.
He assisted in the re-mix of Simon Townshend’s (lead guitar, The Who) CD, Among Us and has lead numerous seminars concerning radio, music marketing and career development. He has worked with Jonathan Edward’s label, Rising Records, Steve Burton of Rounder Records, and Cherry Disc (Letters to Cleo) founding member Graham Wilson.
His CD, This Distant Light featured Ellis Paul, Vance Gilbert and Catie Curtis. Nominated for a Boston Music Award, the project received national press in publications such as Billboard Magazine and airplay at over 120 radio stations.
His CD Trust garnered him a national distribution deal with Goldenrod Music.
Winner of the New England Broadcasting Award, Professor McCluskey has written and produced jingles, audio books and worked as a DJ and Music Director at WUMB-FM, a NPR folk music station in Boston, MA. He also created, hosted and produced the popular New England Coffeehouse Hour, which featured Vance Gilbert, Ellis Paul, Tony Cuffe, Johnny Cunningham, The Mollys, Patty Larkin and other top folk artists.
