Your Responsibilities as a Sponsor of a Recorded Music Intern

As a Recorded Music Internship Sponsor, you are required to:

1. Provide a supportive learning environment for the intern.

2. Discuss the intern's learning objectives to be achieved over the course of the semester and what the intern's job responsibilities are. Please complete the necessary forms in the Agreement Packet incorporating this information, and return to Lauren Davis in the Internship Office.

  • It is a good to sit down with the intern during their first week of work and complete the packet together. Please have the intern return the packet to Lauren Davis in the Internship Office for final internship approval.  You may download an Agreement Packet from this page.

3. Discuss and make adjustments to the intern's work schedule to allow the student to attend weekly mandatory internship class meetings.

4. Over the course of the Internship, touch base with the intern to ensure that the learning objectives detailed in the Agreement Packet are being achieved.

  • You may need to redefine your intern's responsibilities so that they reach their goals for the semester.

5. Prior to providing a final evaluation of the intern's performance via the Supervisor's Evaluation, it is a good idea to sit down with the intern to talk about the intern's overall performance, discuss any future prospects, and offer recommendations that can help the student best prepare for the future.

  • This evaluation will be sent to you approximately three weeks before the end of the semester. Please complete the evaluation and return it to Lauren Davis in the Internship Office. This evaluation is confidential, and will not be shown to the student without your consent. You may find it helpful to use this evaluation as a discussion point during an exit interview.

6. Update your internship listing on the website or contact Lauren Davis at 212-992-8403 prior to each semester that you would like an intern. See Recorded Music Industry Internship Timeline for details.
