Congratulations to ReMu Sophomore, Genesis Briggs, 2009 Reynolds Scholar!

The Catherine B. Reynolds Program in Social Entrepreneurship at New York University, has announced the selection of eight graduate Fellows and six undergraduate Scholars for 2009. Headquartered at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, NYU Reynolds provides its undergraduate Scholars with $40,000 over two years of study, a paid summer internship and an intensive curricular and co-curricular component. The newly chosen Scholars are:
  • Genesis Briggs (Tisch), who will work to expand her production company/independent record label Open Sky Artworks with artistic works by youth for youth
  • Anna Escobar (College of Arts and Science), who plans to establish a network of students to engage in social issue advocacy through the medium of documentary film
  • Erika Hval (College of Arts and Science, transferring to Steinhardt School of Education, Culture and Human Development), whose focus is improving the effectiveness of publicly subsidized food and nutrition programs
  • Nathaniel Reuter (College of Arts and Science), who wants to start an outdoor education program for young people that instills an appreciation for the environment
  • Patricia Schneidewind (College of Arts and Science), who is working on building a secondary school for girls in Tanzania
  • Anna Smukowski (Stern School of Business), who wants to work within companies and organizations to create change and incorporate socially responsible practices into daily operations.

The Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation Program in Social Entrepreneurship is designed to attract, encourage and train a new generation of leaders in public service. Each year, the program exposes a highly selective group of graduate and undergraduate students from throughout New York University to the cross-disciplinary skills, experiences and networking opportunities needed to advance and support their efforts to realize sustainable and scalable pattern-breaking solutions to society’s most intractable problems. The program also brings the field of social entrepreneurship to the greater NYU community. All interested NYU students can take advantage of many of the program’s resources, including access to influential leaders in the field, exposure to cutting-edge research and scholarship on social entrepreneurship, access to new classes, and the opportunity to participate in skill building activities and trainings.
