6 STEPS TO COMPLETING ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT EACH SEMESTER:1. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
Sign-up sheets are posted on each advisor’s door, so make sure you stop by your advisor’s office to sign up for your advising appointment. If you are unable to meet for advising during the allotted hours, it is your responsibility to contact your advisor to arrange for an appointment when you are both available.
2. RESEARCH YOUR REQUIREMENTS
It is imperative that you research what courses you need to take, and consider what courses you want to take. To find out what courses you need to take, please refer to the appropriate Graduation Checksheet for your entering academic year. To find out what courses are being offered, refer to ALBERT via NYUHome, and to the appropriate departments’ websites. For instance, REMU classes are all posted on our website. Most departments now post their courses and course descriptions online.
3. FILL OUT A REGISTRATION WORKSHEET
Prior to your appointment, you must prepare a Registration Worksheet (available on the table by the elevator) with your proposed class schedule. YOU MUST BRING A COMPLETED REGISTRATION WORKSHEET TO YOUR ADVISOR MEETING. If you neglect to do so, you will be turned away and will have to reschedule your appointment.
You are all encouraged to enroll in Summer and Intersession courses. This is a great time to take courses not offered during the regular academic school-year - OR - get some required courses out of the way! There is always a complete list of courses available hanging on the 5th floor callboard, and the list on our website is kept as updated as possible.
Have questions about courses in other departments or at the College of Arts & Sciences? First, check their website to see if more info is posted there, and then if that does not resolve the issue - take a walk! Most often, visiting the department is the easiest way to obtain course schedules, descriptions and syllabi.
Let me say this one more time: YOU MUST BRING A COMPLETED REGISTRATION WORKSHEET TO YOUR ADVISOR MEETING.
4. CHECK ALBERT FOR REGISTRATION BLOCKS due to bursar holds, medical blocks, etc. Albert can now be accessed through the Academic Tab on NYU Home. If you have any problems getting into Albert, call 212.998.4290.
5. CHECK YOUR ASSIGNED REGISTRATION TIME ON ALBERT NOW. The specific date posted will be the first time when you can register for your courses (assuming you have advisor clearance).
6. GO TO YOUR ADVISING APPOINTMENT!!!
***Students currently studying abroad, and unavailable to meet, need to contact your advisor via email.
